Ages 13 – 17 years Our philosophy at the LAL Malta Young Learner Centre is to ensure that each student has fun whilst learning English. Our academic programme is specifically designed for teenagers and delivered through our team of dedicated, experienced and enthusiastic teachers. Here at LAL Malta, we focus on developing the students’ confidence and fluency at speaking English.
Young Learner Centre
Our centre for the ever-popular Young Learner programme is just 10 minutes walk from our main adult school. The centre is ideally located on The Strand close to the popular seaside town of Sliema and has undergone a major refurbishment programme in order to create a dedicated learning environment for young learners which is second to none. The centre comprises an open-plan student lounge with a reception area equipped with a large plasma screen, modern administration office, 60 bright and airy classrooms, vending machines serving drinks and snacks and a large internal courtyard providing a spacious area where our students can enjoy their lunch break and mingle with their fellow students. The centre is managed by our team of academic, leisure and welfare co-ordinators, thus guaranteeing a smooth operation and a pleasant experience for the students. Facts
Tuition
This course has been created to meet the needs of young learners. Teaching materials, especially designed for youth programmes, are used to improve English language abilities. The programme includes structured conversation work (role plays, discussions, debates etc.), listening and reading practice, and some written work. By the end of their stay the students can expect to have improved not only their communicative competence, through their study of ‘survival’ English and ‘everyday’ English but will have also achieved a new level of learner autonomy and confidence. At the end of the course each student will receive a personalised certificate as a record of their successful English language studies.

Accommodation For 2011 LAL Malta is offering 2 types of residences – Centre Residence Accommodation and Club Residence Accommodation.
Location The Centre Residences are located in the heart of Sliema and within walking distance to our Young Learner Centre.
Bayview Hotel
The comfortable apartments are situated in the annexe building, just a short walk of about 200m on foot from the hotel. The apartments are air-conditioned, have a balcony with inland view, private bath/shower room facilities, direct dial telephone, television with satellite channels (remote deposit). Students also have access to a pool, games room and TV area.
The Club Residences are located in Bugibba, a lively and attractive town that is a mecca of restaurants, bars and shops during the summer months.
Bugibba Hotel
Set in a lively area, the Hotel is literally minutes away from the rocky beach and the hustle and bustle of the main square of Bugibba. The Bugibba hotel is fully airconditioned and our students can also make use of the games room and television room. The main pool is located within a large open air central courtyard within the Hotel grounds.
All students residing at either of the club residences will be provided with transportation.
General Information
Each residence will have an LAL Malta appointed welfare officer responsible for the students’ welfare.
All rooms are shared, triple and quads, with en-suite facilities. Safes and Internet are available for the students at an extra charge. Students have to provide a refundable damage/loss deposit of €50 upon arrival which will be refunded to the students at the end of their stay upon inspection and confirmation that no damage was caused.
Transfers and Welfare
Our airport staff will greet you when you arrive in Malta and make sure you are transferred to your host family or student hotel residence accommodation. Students should show the host family/hotel/ apartment address so that our airport representatives can identify them easily.
Transfer time from Malta’s International Airport to Sliema: 30 minutes.
We have a fully trained, dedicated team of Activity Leaders to ensure you are well looked after at all times. Please listen to what they tell you and ensure that you are at your pick up points at the correct time. We will do the rest!
Your first day in Malta
If you have arrived over the weekend, the school will not be open, however, you will start your Leisure Activities straight away. Please see the activity program which is inserted at the front of your guidebook. The airport staff and your activity leaders will advise you which activities you will be joining during the weekend and where you will be picked up from. If you are staying with a Host Family, they will also be able to advise you.
